Is Tom Hardy returning as Venom??

Was Venom good? Like, actually good? We’re still not sure. Either way, the highlight was obviously Tom Hardy. Because, well, Tom Hardy!

We’re not alone in our confusion, as the movie didn’t go down well with critics and has a woeful 29% on Rotten Tomatoes – it does, however, have 81% on its audience score. Audiences surprisingly loved the film, with most agreeing that it’s because of Tom Hardy and his ability to make pretty much anything watchable.

Actually, here’s some interesting facts: Venom made over £850 million – which means it beat Thor: Ragnarok, Mission Impossible: Fallout and Deadpool 2…

So, add to that Sony’s desire to keep it’s Spiderman-spinoff universe going (and Marvel’s potential interest in a Venom-Spidey team-up at somepoint) and it’s no surprise that a sequel is coming up…

And, we’re pleased to say that Amy Pascal (Venom Producer) has confirmed that Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock.

“I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.”

Pascal states that she thinks the movie’s success is due to two things:

It’s a couple of things. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then there’s Tom Hardy. When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.”

Ah, who could forget those lobsters.

Obviously, it’s safe to say that Tom Hardy is contracted for multiple films, but with Tom you never know just what he’s going to do next. Both on-screen and off-screen.

With Tom now on board officially, it’ll be interesting to see if the Venom producers take note of the first movie’s criticisms by reviewers, or if they decide to listen more to fans and movie-goers instead (who loved the off-beat vibe, quirky comedy and not-giving-a-shit-ness of Venom).
