The other MCU (Manly Car Universe) continues to expand with spin-off Hobbs and Shaw kicking into cinemas next month, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down – production has just started on Fast And Furious 9 (yes, movie number 9!). With big dogs Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham now getting their own movie, the next instalment will focus on Vin Diesel’s Dom, with Justin Lin back in the driving seat as director.
Captain Lin posted this pic on Twitter to mark his first movie in the franchise since 2013’s F&F 6 (he also helmed numbers 3, 4 and 5, btw). He’s since worked on Star Trek Beyond (remember that mid-air motorbike grab? F&F in space, anyone?) as well as Exec Producing gritty new TV show Warrior, which looks like an awesome martial arts slammer btw!
Vin himself took to Instagram as well as they finished up their first day of shooting with a Matthew Mcconaughey-esque ‘wow wow wow wow wow wow wow’, and a big thanks to all of their fans:
It feels like a miracle. One hard-earned, but we’re just so grateful. We’re so grateful to you, the world, that has adopted this franchise. It’s so awesome, we’re so blessed, and we love you so much.
F&F 9 is penned by Chris Morgan, who has written each movie since Tokyo Drift (aka F&F 3), so expect more of the same vehicular carnage and family-centred drama we’ve all come to know and love. Interestingly, John Cena is joining the cast alongside favourites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Tyrese Gibson. Everyone seems to be into John Cena at the moment…
