Top Gun: Maverick: First Trailer

FEEL THE NEED…

The first official trailer for Top Gun: Maverick has debuted at San Diego Comic Con 2019! Tom Cruise of course takes centre stage, with Val Kilmer also reprising his role from the original (not sure if he’s in the trailer though). They’re joined by newcomers John Hamm, Jennifer Connolly, Miles Teller (we know, weird right?) and of course Ed Harris, being badass as always.

The trailer looks very promising, as the film looks to contrast the care-free, boys-will-be-boys vibe of their training experience alongside the dark nature of their pursuits and the ever present spectre of death – both of which were key themes in the original.

At first it was thought Cruise would be handing over to a younger actor to lead the franchise, but it’s interesting to see that instead it will keep Cruise as the focus and investigate if he still has a place in the rapidly changing world. There’s a glimpse of Maverick in a space-age helmet normally for astronauts or high altitudes – a reminder that old school Maverick will inevitably come head to head with the new world. It also looks like it’s going down the Mission: Impossible route of popping a wide-angle lens on the dashboard while Cruise performs his own daredevil stunts himself. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love watching that? Check out the trailer below.
